At Brisbane Water Secondary College Umina Campus, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.
Our programs may include:

Year 6 to 7 Transition Information
Year Seven 2027
Targeted Programs and Enrichment Class
Our school offers a range of programs designed to nurture the diverse talents and potential of Year Seven students. Whether your child excels in academics, the creative arts, sports, or dance, we provide specialised learning experiences tailored to help them thrive.
Our information Evening will be held on Tuesday, 5th May 5pm.
Enrichment Class: The Enrichment Class is for students who are gifted, or have high potential, in the academic domain.
Points of Difference:
· HPGE focus for curriculum
· Project Based Learning and Passion Projects
· Excursions and in-school workshops
Selection to the Enrichment Class is gained through a written application and examinations (English and Mathematics).
Creative and Performing Arts Program (CAPA): The Creative and Performing Arts Program, is for students who are gifted, or have high potential, in the creative and performing arts domain. There are four disciplines for our Creative and Performing Arts Program, which are: Art, Drama and Music.
The CAPA Program point of Difference:
· Lessons in the student’s chosen CAPA discipline
· Participation in external showcases
· Participation in school productions
· Excursions and in-school workshops
Selection to the CAPA Program is gained through a written application and an audition.
Targeted Sport Program (TSP): The Targeted Sport Program, is for students who are gifted, or have high potential, in the sporting domain.
The Targeted Sport Program points of difference:
· High performance coaching
· Lessons in Sport Science
· Inter-school sporting competitions
· Cross training and transferrable movement skills
· Off-site training experiences
Selection to the Targeted Sport Program is gained through a written application and an activity assessment.
Targeted Dance Program (TDP): The Targeted Dance Program is for students who are gifted, or have high potential, in the creative and performance domain of Dance.
The Targeted Dance Program points of difference:
- Lessons in Dance technique and conditioning
- Learning various styles of choreography
- School and community performances
- Highly experienced and qualified teachers
Selection to the Targeted Dance Program is gained through a written application and group audition.
Advance Program: The Advance program is guided by the principle that students learn best when they know how to learn, with the aim of equipping students with the skills required to navigate their way to future success.
The Advance Program Points of Difference:
· Differentiated modes of delivery, with a focus on collaborative learning Explicit teaching of learning skills to support and empower students as lifelong learners
The number of students placed in each program will be in direct response to the quality of applicants.
Classes will be structured to enhance academic growth – all students not placed in an Enrichment Program class will be part of the Advance Program.
All students will undertake four program lessons a cycle. Where students are in two programs , they will attend CAPA or TSP/TDP lessons for those four periods.
Students not in a targeted program will undertake four Advance lessons a cycle. Advance lessons are focused on the development of core skills – collaboration, organisation, reading, writing and numeracy.
Partner Primary Schools: Please return application forms to your child’s primary school no later than May 29th, in order for the Primary School’s reference to be completed. Forms will be collected from primary schools on June 9th.
Non-Partner Primary Schools: Please return completed application forms to the Brisbane Water Secondary College Umina Campus administration office no later than June 9th.
Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
